The Anaconda island

The projects from the Communidad: Sacha Hambi, Wankuriska Ayllu Canelos and Casa Yachak are located opposite the AmaZOOnico, Selva Viva and Liana Lodge projects. They are on Isla Anakonda, which separates the Rio Arajuno from the Rio Napo.

Around 500 people live on the island, who grow the fruit and vegetables for the animals at AmaZOOnico, among other things.

The staff at Liana Lodge and amaZOOnico also come from the island or neighbouring communities.

The people

The projects are managed by committed people from the Comunidad. They are independent of amaZOOnico, but work closely with it. The website offers them a platform to promote their projects. This enables local people to earn a sustainable income. They also benefit from the protected forest and the resulting increase in tourism in the area. Ecotourism is important for the long-term preservation of the local rainforest, as it benefits nature and people alike. Without the acceptance and support of the local population, amaZOOnico cannot exist.
